Metal Stair Rail Photos
Many people have requested more photos of the metal stair rail. It is remarkably difficult to get good pictures of a staircase, but here’s my best attempt:
View ascending the stairs, with my cute 4-year-old son descending.
View of the base of the stairs with detail of the block holding the conduit at an angle.
View of the upper landing of the staircase.
View of the center post of the angled section, with detail of the block holding the conduit.

This is awesome thanks! I am going to get everything ready before I ‘post’ more info on my project. I have a couple more things I have to do. But thanks!!

Quick question… what did you do, and how did you wrap the top section of your stair like that with that carpet? What was your process??

Matt, I will soon be writing another entry on the staircase. It was entirely carpeted in the conventional (ugly) way. The steps are not hardwood, just pine spattered with construction paint. I skinned them with bamboo for the risers and covered the treads with a modern patterned carpet. Stay tuned for details…

I have finished… actually, I finished them a long time ago just been too busy. Craig, if you would like me to do a post, I would be more than happy too.

I love what you’ve done here! I will be trying this type of work for the first time, was it difficult (I mean for someone who is maybe a “5″ in home improvement) ?

How did you drill the hole angles for the stairs

I used a drill press with a tilt table to get the angle, clamped down the wood to hold it in place, used a forstner bit for stability, and drilled slooooowly and carefully.
