Freeform Furniture – DIY TV Show

There is a great TV show on DIY Network called Freeform Furniture.

The host, Amy Devers, has a great eye for modern design and she is a master of using different materials. She has used stainless steel, plastics, laminates, leather, concrete, resins, glass tile, cork, and more.

She also makes an effort to show advanced construction techniques, such as welding, bending wood, water jet cutting, powder-coating, and others.

The show format is a step-by-step how-to for a single furniture project. You can see the online versions of the instructions:

Fire Screen

…a brightly colored decorative fire screen made out of 14 pieces of curved medium density fiberboard. Threaded rods screw into threaded inserts and hold the orange-red painted pieces of MDF together with ½ inch aluminum spacers between each piece.

Mobile entertainment center

…a sleek made to fit media center with mixed modern materials: metal, a textile and wood.

End Table

…covers plywood with cement, embeds broken auto glass in a layer of clear epoxy resin and uses metal legs to complete the design.

Finding the show can be a bit difficult since there are just a few episodes. But they are all worth watching. Check it out if you can find it on DIY Network.
